jay Dixon is a freelance editor, specialising in historical fiction. She has written an analysis of the romance fiction of Mills & Boon, as well as numerous articles on Georgette Heyer and given many talks on various aspects of historical fiction. Her current interest is how place can be used to highlight the theme of a novel, or be used to set the atmosphere – the obvious example here being the ancient castle in a Gothic novel.
