Saturday 29th Sept 19.30 – 23.00 – Banquet with minstrels and jesters - ~~£49 members, £59 non-members~~ (limited to those also attending a day Conference and their partners – but no more than one partner per day Conference attendee)

Sunday 30th Sept 09.30 – 14.00 – Morning Conference including lunch, beverages and snacks – £45 members, £50 non-members

Total (*excluding Banquet) £127 members, £139 non-members

However, we are offering a further discounted rate to members attending all elements (excluding the Banquet) in the main programme package – £120

Will there be a mass book signing involving the published author-attendees at this conference?

Also, do members of the U.S. Historical Novel Society qualify for the membership rates for the conference?

In answer to your questions,Leslie – the historical Novel Society is a global organisation and so long as you are a member of that you will be entitled to the conference discounts. Our aim is to offer bookselling at the conference for all published conference attendees – we’re in the process of organising that now. So yes, in a nutshell, there will be mass booksigning!

I’ll register/book for the conference in a few days. I’m very excited about, it’ will be my first HSN conference (hopefully the first of many!)
I’m just a little bit worried about not knowing anyone there, I was wondering if there’s any support/advice for new comers, a meet&greet of some sort?

The HNS is a very welcoming organisation. I went to San Diego on my own, knowing hardly anyone, and came away having made lots of new friends. So don’t worry – you’ll soon settle in. But you raise a good point. I think we should have a special welcome for Conference first-timers at the Friday night reception, and put everyone in touch as a group – at least for those who wish. Consider it in hand!…

    Hi Jan – sorry to be a bit late responding to this – I agree that we should have a friendly welcome and meeting point for newcomers for both days of the conference and the reception as well. (It will be done!)

Just got the thumbs-up from my husband that we can make the arrangements to attend!! I know he will want to accompany me to the reception and banquet; he might even wish to attend the whole conference. Because I am a member, would he qualify for the member’s discount as well?

Non-members can certainly attend all elements of the Conference (though admission to the banquet is limited to those attending the day conference and their partners – 1 partner per delegate). I’m afraid though that non-members will need to pay the non-member rate. (Leslie – why not encourage your husband to join?!…)

The US conference banquet has a historical costume pageant – will the UK one have something similar?

  Oh, yes, Sandra. The costume pageant is in the very early stages of organisation, but we already have the perfect person to help ensure everyone taking part is suitably dressed on the night! We also a plan to reprise the (in)famous Saturday Night Sex Scene Readings under Gillian Bagwells’ expert guidance. Both should be great fun!

I remember you from the 2011 HNS Conference in San Diego (I presented two times; 19th Century Fashion and Maritime Panel) – I am giving serious thought to attending the 2012 in England. London is at the top of my “Places to see” list. Perhaps this is my grand opportunity.
